Forty seven Samurai
Can you defend properly with your bokken or are you vunerable to any attack? or do you just rely on reactions and instinct.
When defending with the bokken, you'll find it easier than attacking as usually your opponent will telegraph his moves
When in your dojo, you must use a rack for your bokken or Jo, as this is the proper place to keep them, out of the way of danger, to show respect, and for tidiness. Also as they are wood to stop them warping out of shape, which happens a lot of the time when there are hot and cold spells in dojo's. The attacks of a bokken are Shomen attack, Yokomen attack and Shomen-tsuki attack. Shomen is downward to-ward the top of the head, Yokomen is an attack to the side of the head at aprox 45 degrees, Shomen-tsuki is another attack a straight thrust to the chest or face. These are the main attacks of the bokken, some have variations and so on but these are the core techniques.

Every other cut or strike begins with one of the main attacks then branching out, this is why your sensei will make you cut over and over again. Using your bokken for understanding how in Aikido we learn to throw the students, and is also a great aid to knowing where the techinque originated from.
You will find in a bokken class You'll give it 100% concentration. So all the outside worries will be left outside When transporting your bokken, you must do so with it fully covered, as you move it from dojo to dojo or from your home to a dojo as is in most countries It is against the law to carry an open weapon, which can be used readily. You must have a bag or a container. Nothing which allows you easy access to your bokken or Jo or tanto.
When you're finished training with your bokken. Please return it to the rack for safekeeping so can afford no one any danger or mishaps
